The process of installing The Accounting Library is quite easy.
Close all other programs, including virus scanning programs and any other programs that might be running in the background (like Microsoft Office).
Place the CD in your CD-ROM drive. Use Explorer to look at the contents of the CD.
Since there are two different versions of the program (live database and demo database), no program will auto load.
Select the folder representing the version of the program you want to install.
Double-click on the Setup.exe application in the folder.
If you receive a prompt saying that the installation program has run into a conflict with a running application, in spite of the fact that you have closed all applications, reboot your computer, close any programs that might have been opened at startup, and start the installation process again.
The installation program will ask you to specify the installation folder. The default folder is TAL and if that is acceptable click on the Install icon. If you need to change the information on the screen, simply select the Change Directory button, specify an alternate directory and path, and then select the Install icon. If you already have The Accounting Library installed on your computer in a folder named TAL, use the Change Directory feature during installation to install the program in a different folder. If you try to install the program in an existing directory the program will skip all files that currently exist and basically nothing will happen.
When you launch the program for the first time, it will prompt you to enter a User Name and Serial #. Enter your name or initials and then enter 705100 as the Serial #. When you install the demo on a client's desktop you may want to specify the client's company name.
The program is asking for a User Name and Serial Number. Where do I find that?
The User Name the program is asking for should be either your name or your firm's name. Technically the program does not absolutely require a Serial Number. You can input any numeric value as long as it is strictly numeric.
Setup cannot continue because some system files are out of date on your system.
Make sure you have installed the latest service pack for your operating system. This will remove the need to update system files.
This message can also mean that there are left over files in your Temporary folder or the folder is set up incorrectly.
Close programs that are running, clear out your temp directory, and try the installation again. Also check the related items below.
Note: Your temporary directory may be difficult to find. On Windows 2000, it defaults to: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Temp and the Local Settings directory is hidden.
You can find the exact location of your temp directory by going to a command prompt and typing: set temp and pressing Enter.
